Radioactive materials are generally handled in equipment called “glove boxes”.
The material should be placed inside a box that is closed and the operator wears gloves that are applied to the box walls. This way, the operator and the environment are protected from radioactive emissions.
If radioactive material is gamma emitting, in addition to alpha and beta radiation, handling should be done with remote control and emission absorbing material networks.
The walls of the room, where the radioactive materials are, are made of 10cm thick lead.
